Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

By Christina Welty

My husband and I enjoy watching Good Bones on HGTV. We originally started watching because it takes place in my husband’s hometown of Indianapolis, but it’s refreshing because the mother-daughter team of Karen and Mina are candid about the hard work required to renovate homes. Even though they are the stars of the show, the entire team who helps make the renovation(s) possible is shown throughout each episode. Even Mina’s favorite catch phrase is “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work”.

This idea made me think about our company and all of the people responsible for our successes over the years. One of the aspects our company focuses on is teamwork.  Continue reading “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work”

Culture is King

By: John Ricco, CAE

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past decade you’ve probably read about, heard about, and seen entirely too many PowerPoint presentations about organizational culture.  The articles, books and discussions focus on both corporate culture as well as the culture in not for profit (NFP) organizations.  One might argue that in the NFP community, culture plays an even more important role due to the passion and “all-in” commitment of those associated with promoting their chosen industry or cause.

Partners takes culture very seriously — both ours as “the Partners team” and the way that culture integrates with the cultures of the organizations we serve.  While each association has its own distinct values and beliefs, we like to think our organization’s culture infuses that of the associations we manage Continue reading “Culture is King”

Finding Calm in Chaos

By: Kristi Spargo

I am not a trendsetter. I am not even a trend follower. I’ve been known to quit listening to bands once they become popular and although it’s 2018, I still haven’t gotten over my fear of Facebook. There is one trend, however, that has completely captivated me: mindfulness through meditation. I understand that the vast majority of our readers are Type A meeting planners, executives and generally speaking, people that might not picture themselves taking a 10-minute break in the busy association world to seek their Zen. But before commencing the hippie talk requisite eye roll, at least consider the legitimacy of this trend. Continue reading “Finding Calm in Chaos”

Florida Life Care Residents Association (FLiCRA) – A Good Example of Grassroots in Action

By: Bennett Napier, CAE

The lead off organization being featured is actually the company’s longest term client, the Florida Life Care Residents Association (FLiCRA). I started as their Executive Director twenty six years ago, and they transitioned with me as our first client association, when our AMC formally opened. THE POWER OF A DETAILED CHART OF ACCOUNTS

By Erik Luoma, CPA

It is important to properly set up a chart of accounts. A great resource for any association looking to beef up their chart of accounts is the ASAE Standard Chart of Accounts for Associations (www.asae.org). I highly recommend everyone download and read the entire document as it is only a few pages long and will discuss many of these concepts in much greater detail. 4 Things Your Members Expect from Your Association

Posted by Callie Walker, MemberClicks

People join associations for a number of reasons – professional development, networking opportunities, certifications and ongoing education, etc. But regardless of why they join, there are a few underlying expectations people have of your association – things they expect you to adhere to, regardless of size or industry. Déjà vu…..Disaster Plan

By: Amy Bean Napier

Check, Implementation….Hopefully this Time!

With Hurricane Irma barreling down on Florida and possibly the entire East Coast, it’s a great time to remember how important your disaster plan is to your business.  The blog below was written following Hurricane Hermine causing devastation to Tallahassee almost exactly 1 year ago.  We’ve tweaked and improved our disaster plan and feel we are ready for Irma! The Hiring Games

By: Kristi Spargo

There’s nothing quite like the moment when I had to inform an employee that they have unpleasant body odor and needed to wear deodorant. Or the moment when I politely requested an employee to please leave their half-shirts at home and try to step up their office apparel to include pants without holes.  Memorable indeed.  It’s been over a decade since I worked in human resources but I’ll never forget the sinking feeling in my stomach, the nerves gripping my throat, my cheeks flushing and my verbal skills deteriorating to a lot of “umms” and “yeahs” during these awkward conversations.  Continue reading “The Hiring Games”

Summer is upon us. It is a time for sun, sand and fruity drinks by the pool. However, as the June and July months come to a close, we begin to relive the frightening moments leading up to last year’s Hurricane Hermine. We are seeing storms starting to form in the Atlantic. The City of Tallahassee is instructing its citizens on where to fill up sand bags. Our minds start racing as we plan for the worst. Continue reading “Preparing for Disaster”
